Family & Couple
Therapy

Family and couple therapy is a time to learn healthy boundaries and communication styles, practice positive behaviors, and heal as a unit. In this type of therapy, the focus is on the system—whether it’s the entire family, a couple, or even the relationships between siblings or parents and children—rather than on any one individual as the “client.” Each session aims to strengthen and heal the system as a whole.

If you’re participating in family or couple therapy, everyone needs to take responsibility for their role in the process. There won’t be a single person identified as "the problem." The approach emphasizes that everyone affects the system and can take action to improve it. Without this shared accountability, therapy may not be effective and could end up being a waste of time and money.

Sometimes, family therapy involves a parent or child who is not interested in participating. In the initial session, we can determine whether it makes sense to move forward with just the parents, one parent, or just the children. The same applies to couple therapy; if one partner is reluctant to attend, we might decide that individual therapy for the willing partner would be a better option.
